About Us

Chatteris Kingfishers were formed in 1964, following the conversion of the Empress Cinema in Chatteris into the town's first indoor swimming pool. The Kingfishers still teach and coach swimmers there to this day.

The club has adapted through the years, in line with the way swimming was run by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA). We follow the National Plan for Teaching Swimming to ensure children are taught the vital skills they will require to a high standard, and with natural progression. These half hour sessions take place on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Once children have completed the national plan, they move up to the training squads, where the emphasis moves from teaching to training, building up technique, speed and stamina, setting them up for competitive swimming. In this area we have nurtured County, Regional and National level swimmers, and constantly perform over and beyond what is expected from a club of our size. Squad training takes place four nights a week.

As a club, we actively encourage our swimmers to compete in competitions, reinforcing team spirit, values and competitiveness. We compete in both local and national leagues, as well as club championships and Open Meets, such as the Fenland open meet, where we have been joint organisers for 20 years to bring competition to our swimmers and those other clubs who compete locally.
